What are Funnel Steps and how do they work?

Understand how steps work in Funnels and how to define them.

Funnel Steps represent the key moments you want to track in sequence—like visiting a product page or clicking a CTA.

Each funnel step has:

  • A Condition Type: All visitors to site*, Entered site via specific Pages*, Entered site via specific Tags*, Page View, Tag View, Action, Conversion, Referrer

    • *available for first step only

  • A Condition Value: the specific page, tag, referrer, or event

Can I use different condition types in the same funnel step?

  • No — all rules in a single step must share the same condition type (e.g., all Page Views or all Tag Views).

Funnel steps must follow this logic:

  • Only Step 1 can use “All Visitors,” “Entered Site via Page,” or “Entered Site via Tag”

  • Within a step, all rules use OR logic

How many steps can my funnel have?

  • As a reminder, a Funnel must have at least 2 steps.

  • You can add up to 50 steps in a funnel.

Can I reorder steps of a Funnel?

  • Yes, hover over the step in the left sidebar in Funnel Builder and click ‘Move up’ or ‘Move down’.
