API Conversions allow you to measure outcomes that happen outside your website — such as CRM milestones, sales, or offline conversions — and connect them to your Knotch One analytics.
Once configured and received, API Conversions appear alongside Site Conversions and can be used in filters, Funnels, Quadrants, dashboards and leaderboards to understand which content best drives real business results.
Navigate to Conversions
Click the ‘+’ button
Add an API Conversion
Under Event Category dropdown menu, select ‘API Conversion’
The Event Builder interface adjusts to display setup fields specific to API-based conversions
Select an ingested event_name (e.g., ClosedWon, BecameSQL, AdClick) from the dropdown. This must match the event_name value passed in from your CRM or third-party platform so that Knotch can connect incoming data to the right event.
If an event_name is already in use for another API Conversion, it will be greyed out and not selectable.
If no API events have been ingested via the Knotch Events API, you can still create an API Conversion for future ingestion:
Select ‘Add Event Name’ in the Event Name dropdown menu and enter the exact name of the event that you plan to pass in from your external system to the Knotch Events API. Important: Future events must match this name to be recognized by Knotch.
Certain event fields are required and cannot be disabled:
Event ID (event_id) and Timestamp (timestamp) – always included. These cannot be disabled and must be sent in your API payload.
Knotch Visitor ID (kn_cs_visitor_id) – required for event-to-visitor matching. This allows Knotch to match your API events with visitors who interacted with your site and attribute events to visitor journeys and their respective content.
You can optionally map a value field (e.g., deal size, purchase amount, etc.). If your event includes a value amount—such as a deal size or purchase total—you can map it here. Knotch will automatically store that value at the individual event level and sum it for the respective API Conversion.
Field Name: value (locked)
Operator: sum
Currency: assumed USD
Once saved, your API Conversions appear in the Conversions Leaderboard alongside your Site Conversions.
You can filter, compare, and analyze them across Pages, Tags, Quadrants and Funnels — providing unified visibility into both on-site and off-site outcomes.

You can delete one or multiple API Conversions directly from the Conversions Leaderboard.
Steps:
Select one or more API and/or Site Conversions in the leaderboard
Click the existing Delete button in the toolbar
Similar to deletion of Site Conversions and Actions, this is considered a ‘soft’ delete. Deleting API Conversions will remove the events from dashboards and tables and it may take up to an hour to fully remove the events from dashboards and tables.
Note: The raw event data passed in through the Knotch Events API will still be stored in your account and you can re-create API Conversions at any time in Event Builder without making additional API calls.
