# What is the Device filter and where does it pull from?

Understand how device type is tracked and filtered in Knotch One.

The **Device** filter allows you to view analytics based on how users access your content—by desktop or mobile.

Knotch One identifies the device by reading the **user agent string** from the visitor’s browser session. This string provides information about the device type being used.

Filtering by device helps you:

- See how performance varies across screen types

- Identify whether mobile or desktop audiences are engaging differently

- Optimize content for the formats your users prefer

This filter is available in sections like Pages, Tags, Conversions, and Actions.
