# Which source gets credit when a visitor views multiple pages?

Learn whether later pages in a visit are credited to where the visitor first came from or to the previous page.

When a visitor views several pages on your site, Knotch One gives credit for every page to **where the visitor first came from**, such as a Google ad or an email.

Clicking from one of your pages to another does not change the credit.

For example, a visitor clicks a Google paid search ad and browses three pages:

- **Page 1** (from the ad): Search Paid

- **Page 2** (clicked from Page 1): Search Paid

- **Page 3** (clicked from Page 2): Search Paid

Page 3 is credited to Search Paid, not to Page 2.

For each page view, Knotch One looks at the click that led there and sorts it into a [Referrer Group](https://help.knotch.com/en/articles/239-what-is-a-referrer-group.md), checking in this order:

1. **A marketing source:** search, social, email, AI search, display ads or another website. Links with UTM tags or ad click IDs count here, even on your own site.

2. **Internal:** a click from another page on your own site.

3. **Direct / None:** no source could be detected.

Internal clicks keep the credit of the source the visitor came from. Any other source starts a new visit with new credit.

When you filter by a source, such as Search Paid, your results include every page those visitors viewed, not just the first page.

You will only see Internal as a source when a visit begins with an internal click. For example, a visitor leaves a tab open for more than 30 minutes, then clicks to another page.
